The Real Me (demo) Release!

I’m extremely excited to release the demo for my newest game, The Real Me! This is my first attempt at the horror genre, and the game has pushed me further as a designer than I’ve ever gone before.

I never expected that I’d make a horror game. Sure, I love the classics like RE, but I don’t play them very often. I thought horror just wasn’t my cup of tea, but that all changed last summer. My friend got me watching horror movies, and while the first few were rough, eventually I couldn’t look away and we’d watch any horror film we could find. A few of my favorites were Hereditary, Midsommar and It Follows. Our scare-seeking antics even went so far that we went into the woods and watched The Blair Witch Project in the middle of the night on a projector. So when October rolled around, I decided it would be fun to try my hand at horror.

My goal was to finish it in a month, but that obviously didn’t happen and it turned out to be more difficult than I had anticipated (and completely revamping the art style and perspective halfway through doesn’t help haha). My original vision was to make extremely simple visuals and use text extensively to tell the story as a sort of experiment on abstraction, but I ended up making more compromises on the minimalist visuals idea to make the characters and story more emotionally relatable. This is the first real “story-driven” game I’ve ever made, so I had a blast writing these characters and scenes. I really got to take what I love most about games and movies and put them together.

Thanks for reading and please give the game a try if you’d like. Please let me know what you think! I’d love to hear from all of you.

Just sharing this with you Developer :]

Fantastic video! I appreciate the feedback you gave, especially about the enemies, and I will definitely try to implement it for the full game.
